Lethbridge (to the right) in January or Savaii in early February (below), which one would you choose?
When they mow their lawns, they use weed-eaters or whipper-snippers (depending where you are from) rather than lawn mowers. Since we've been here I have only seen one lawn mower. There are two people to the left and one below and even though it is hot outside they are all dressed up and covered.
Here are some of the bugs we have!
The Good (they eat all the little pesties)
The Good!!!!
The Bad (it was a monstrous centipede and it hurts a lot when they bite. This is according to Milo Barfuss and several people here).
And of course The Ugly (The cockroaches aren't too bad, they are just ugly and they scare the tar out of you when they zip by.)
This was a live Ugly that worried Joanne quite a bit, especially when it wanted to be inside.
This is our house in Vaiola, thank goodness for air conditioning.
This is a "hand" of bananas and when it is ready to be picked, they will cut the whole hand of and then they cut the main tree down and the new sprouts will grow up and produce bananas in 6 - 8 months
Banyan tree. The Banyon tree has many roots and stems and it grows into a huge tree but it really a combination of many trees together. This shows you all the stems as they grow together.
This shows what the the whole tree looks like.
These are both of the water fall at Sauniatu. Its an impressive waterfall as you watch the video clip.
Vaiola school has two tents so that the student can have some shade as they watch the games. This day they are playing Rugby, senior boy and junior boys; Netball girls senior, intermediate, and junior; and Volleyball, girls senior, intermediate, and junior.
Notice the ref is leaning back against the poles this is how they keep the nets tight. Both refs lean back against the poles and the nets stays tight. When the game is finished, the refs walk away and the nets sag down. A very interesting system.
This is us sipping coconut milk, the senior class was selling coconuts as fundraiser. |
